A river city on the Rhine, Basel is also a major crossroads between Switzerland, France and Germany, between languages and religions and between the North of Europe and the Mediterranean South, two regions which exchange products, people and ideas. The busy River Rhine offers many activities : from a trip on one of the four ferries, powered solely by the river currents, to passenger boats offering cruises throughout the year, not to mention that the river is Basel’s most popular public swimming pool in the summer. So both nature and culture are sources of multiple attractions in Basel: walks, museums, theatres, sport activities, parks and zoological garden.
